Whether we are a churchgoer, a business manager, or a college student, we want to be successful; it is ingrained within each one of us. Success is a topic that is ageless. Whether we grew up in the fifteenth century or now in the twenty-first century, the desire to succeed is there.
We buy books on how to succeed and listen to stories of those who are successful, hoping to glean some insight into how they did it. We are searching desperately for the answer to one of the key questions in our soul: “How do I become successful?” I believe that we want the answer, but, in my opinion, we are not beginning with the correct question and, therefore, are not getting the answer we are searching for.
We want to know how to succeed but have yet to define what success means to us. So we go about trying to discover the key to success, without knowing what success is or what it truly looks like. I believe that if we had a clear understanding of what success is, we would minimize our search efforts as to how to get it. With so many ways to succeed, if you are not clear as to what success looks like, you could be following various leadership books but not find success for yourself. So, how did these authors of these books become so successful? People read their books and apply their principles, yet the same results are not achieved by the majority of the readers. We need to clarify what success is before we can begin to discuss how to achieve it.
